Pest Infestation
Damages due to pest infestation are irreversible. Paper, wood, leather, textile and fibre are prone to pest infestation because pests can easily ingest these organic materials.
Different pests attack different artefacts. Silverfish (lepisma saccharina) attack books and paper artefacts while carpet beetles (anthrenus verbasci) prefer nestling among historical costumes and textiles.

Notice tiny holes created by pest?
Take a look at the brace. Do you know why the termites had only attacked the un-etched portions, leaving the etched areas untouched? The pests could have found the varnish covering the etched portions inedible.
