Artefacts are gifts from the past. How much should a conservator conserve so as not to unintentionally erase precious evidence of history?
In this tampan there was an area of loss on the edge on the lower left side that will be left untreated for two reasons:
1 The loss does not pose any structural risk.
2 Conservators suspect that the loss could have been made intentionally. For instance, pieces of the tampan could have been cut off and used to make medicine.
